Martyn, The Dutch, D.C. Dubstep Connection

Martyn, the D.C. based, Dutch, bass music innovator will be rocking the Works’ main floor tonight alongside Scuba. Like Scuba, this European producer has taken dubstep out of its recent teenage doom period and into a more forward-looking and varied direction. He also runs his own 3024 label, which has put out releases by 2562, Illum Sphere, Julio Bashmore and Addison Groove.

He kicked off his career in 2005 with excellent releases on respected dubstep/bass labels like Marcus Intalex’s Revolve:r imprint and the Play:musik label. By 2007 he had four releases on Revolve:r and had established his 3024 label, which features iconic artwork by European artist, Erosie. By 2008 he was remixing fellow bassmonauts like Flying Lotus and 2562 and in 2010 achieved the distinction of being asked to mix Fabric’s 50th release in their mix series. And it doesn’t stop there, he has followed these accolades with releases on respected British dubstep/UK garage labels Apple Pips and Tectonic as well as material on techno and house labels like Will Saul’s Aus Music and Berghain’s imprint Ostgut Ton.

Tonight at the Works he will demonstrate how his genre-hopping adventurousness has led to globe-hopping…umm….travelyness as he treats us to a selection of abstract machine funk that will heave the dancefloor and move the crowd. Please join us all as we wait for the bass weight.

Veedubya.
